Testimonials

“Lucy's silent retreat was such a welcomed rest. I had never experienced true silence, without distracting myself away from present moment with music, reading or writing. It was like giving myself the gift of simply being and what a lovely place to rest!"

About Lucy

I'm Lucy Fox, Chief Welcomer at Gift House Retreats.

Beginning in the 90s, I spent one week per year here in silence. Some years I read. Some years I set words aside entirely. Some years I spoke only to the dog. Some years, not even that.

What stayed constant was the healing in the silence. This place and this practice became my bedrock — the thing that carried me through the challenges of young adulthood, year after year.

When I became a mother, the practice paused. Now that my daughter is a teen, I've come back — and I've learned something new: silence shared in community is even more powerful than silence alone.

Additionally, after 30 years as a psychotherapist, I'm comfortable with the full range of feelings and style of healing that quiet can allow— and I trust silence to do its gentle work.
